- 7. One major reason is that some governments more involved in their country’s Internet capabilities.
- 8. The South Korean government helped build out
- 9. So its citizens have the highest Internet speeds at some of the cheapest prices.
- 10. The U.S. government is trying encourage more competition too, sort of.
- 11. The Federal Communications Commission just redefined the minimum speeds for broadband Internet.

- 13. The FCC wants to make the case that there aren’t enough broadband competitors.
- 14. Because under the new standard, many Americans
- 15. The FCC wants the new minimum broadband
- 16. It could also mean the proposed merger
- 17. What it doesn’t mean is that America’s Internet speeds will start skyrocketing though.
- 18. The government would have to offer some
- 19. And that’s not very likely.
- 20. So for now, Americans will have to settle for our current Internet speeds.
- 21. And hope for just a little more government interaction, and a lot more competition.
