Степени сравнения прилагательных
К прилагательным, состоящим из одного или двух слогов, в превосходной степени прибавляется
Суффикс -er
Суффикс -est
Положительную, сравнительную и превосходную степени сравнения
Если прилагательное оканчивается на букву у, которой предшествует согласная, то при добавлении суффиксов
-er/-est
Good, bad
То при добавлении суффикса er, буква е отбрасывается
Конечная согласная удваивается
Эти прилагательные образуют степени сравнения не по правилу:
То буква у меняется на i
Для этого перед прилагательным в сравнительной степени употребляется слово less (менее),а перед прилагательным в превосходной степени употребляется слово
the least (наименее)
The Thames is long. The Volga is longer. The Irtysh is the longest.
A village is big. A town is bigger. A city is the biggest.
A car is fast. A train is faster. A plane is the fastest.
Spain is small. Japan is smaller. Belgium is the smallest.

“A camping stove is (cheap) than a tent. Lets have it.”
“We can’t have a camping stove and a tent. We have only six thousand roubles. The tent is (expensive) equipment, but it is also (important) equipment.”
“A kettle is (expensive) equipment, but we don’t need it.”
“A mattress is (cheap) than a camping stove, but it’s (useful) equipment. We have our sleeping bags!”
“A mattress isn’t (useful) equipment, but it’s important for me. It’s (comfortable) to sleep on a mattress than on the ground.”
“We can have a kettle – it’s (cheap and light) thing.”
A camping stove is cheaper than a
tent. Lets have it.

expensive equipment, but it is also the
most important equipment.
