Sign up by picking a username

(e.g. your own name or company name), and create a Twitter ID.
Select a strong password with at least 8 characters (the longer, the better).
Upload an appropriate profile photo (you personally or your brand/company, if you have your own business).
Upload a background photo, preferably one you´ve taken personally, or your business logo.
Choose a background design. Templates are available, but you can also upload a personal photo/your business logo.
NOTE! Profile/background photos & designs can be changed regularly.

“Every master was once an apprentice”.

You will learn through experience.
Start by following friends/colleagues, and people you know.
Follow people/organizations/businesses that are of interest to you. Some of them may follow back, even celebrities. You can always Tweet to them and ask if they would follow you.
Getting the first 2.000 followers is the most difficult part. Have patience, if you want to grow your followers/your following.
Do not spam people/other Twitter users with too much, or inappropriate material. Follow the rules & guidelines of Twitter.

Focus on Tweeting with value, and

topics that are of interest to you personally. Other users who share your interests are more likely to follow you back.
Follow others first, and do not expect that others will start following you without your effort. This is one of the basic rules in online networking. Unless you are a celebrity of course who gets followers without following anyone back.
Follow, and see if people follow you back. It is very common on Twitter, and part of the “Twetiquette”, to follow other users back. Unless the user is a spammer, a fake account etc.
Use common sense, as with everything else.

Start by following e.g. 100 users,

and see how many follow back. Wait a few days. If the user does not follow back, you can decide whether you want to continue following the user or not.
Use hashtags (#) in your Tweets. It gives your Tweets more visibility, and if you e.g. hashtag #leadership, or #dog, it is more likely that users with the same interest as you will notice your Tweet, and start following you. Remember not to overuse hashtags. 3-4 hashtags per Tweet is a general rule. If every word includes # you look like a spammer to other users.
You can have as many interests as you want, there are no limits, only your personal creativity.

It is possible to buy Twitter

followers, but it is not recommended unless necessary, because
- You have no guarantee of the quality of the users. If you buy 10.000 followers, they may all be fake/robots and so on.
- Your real followers may notice that you have bought (fake) followers, and there is a risk that they will unfollow you, or at least lose their respect. Anyway, it is up to you. Use your common sense.
- Personally, I have never bought a single Twitter follower. Today, I have more than 52.000 followers, and I have worked for each and one of them. I opened my Twitter account in 2011, had about 900 followers in November 2013, and gained almost 50.000 followers in one year. How? Well, I spent at least one hour almost every day networking and Tweeting on Twitter in 2014. The more following you have, the easier it becomes to grow your personal/business account.

Do not over-analyze. Just do it. Create

a personal/business Twitter account, unless you already have one. In fact, you can have as many as you want to.
If you do not have the time for it (e.g. as a business owner), make sure to hire someone/a company taking care of your Twitter account for you. Having a Twitter account is a part of your online business/sales/marketing/branding strategy.
Be polite and helpful to other users when communicating on Twitter. Be a friendly and diplomatic Tweeter. Interact with other users if possible, but keep your limits.

mute disturbing accounts. Deleting Tweets is also a possibility.
All the information is available in Twitter´s guidelines/settings.
There is a lot of information available about Twitter on different online channels.
It is possible to advertise on Twitter.
There are many (free-of-charge) online tools for managing your Twitter account(s).
There is much more to Twitter than one can imagine, when used to its full potential.
