Bloody fountain in Swansea

Слайд 4In Swansea (Wales Kingdom) on Castle square is situated a small

fountain. It is interest only until March 1 of each year. On this day the British celebrate the day of Saint David Welsh and then the water in the fountain turns blood red. The spectacle is truly breathtaking... In this state she remained until 9 March.

Слайд 5It's not the only one in the world like a fountain.

Some time ago, the analogue of the attractions were opened in Bucharest (Romania). But its purpose is completely different - it draws attention to a social problem - the disease of hemophilia. There are over 2000 people suffering from this
disease seriousl.

History
The original castle seems to have been a sub-rectangular/oval enclosure,

overlooking the river, on the East, surrounded on the North, West and South sides of the larger sub-rectangular outer Bailey. The inner Bailey probably contained a small grove, but another view is that it was the ring work. The new castle was attacked by the Welsh in 1116 but the inner castle held.
After various other unsuccessful attacks the castle fell in 1217, but returned to the English in 1220 as part of the settlement between Llywelyn AP Iorwerth and Henry III of England. Immediately after this the inner castle was probably surrounded in stone with at least one tower.

Слайд 7Later in the 13th century the large outer Bailey was also

surrounded. The only visible remains are two sides of a rectangular "new castle" built in the South-Eastern corner of the outer Bailey in the last 13th or early 14th century. South side (which ends up in a high tower pantry) topped with a graceful series of galleries in the head wall, which is similar to the structures in the Bishop of Saint David's palaces at Lampi and St. David. By the time the castle lost its military importance. It is not known whether it fell to allies of Owain Glyndwr in the early 15th century.18-x and 19-x parts of a castle centuries had variously used as a market hall, training hall and priso.

Слайд 9
Part of the interior of the new castle was destroyed in

the early 20th century in the construction of the newspaper. The remains were now connected and open to be viewed from the street.
